Introduction to Ardlui
Today is Day 0 of my hike along the northern section of the West Highland Way. The entire trail stretches between Glasgow and Fort William in the west of Scotland covering about 95 miles. I undertook the first four days, Glasgow to Inverarnan, over 9th-12th September and have now returned to complete the remainder. This last leg will take five days and cover about 55 miles through some very rugged country.
Tonight I am staying at the Ardlui Hotel at the northern end of Loch Lomond in readiness for a 9.00am start tomorrow. To re-connect with the trail I have to avail of a short ferry trip from the hotel to Ardleish on the eastern side of the loch.

Photography
As will be evident from the images posted herein, my arrival here coincided with an excellent display of rainbows. The light conditions facilitated some reasonable images of the northern section of Loch Lomond.

Information on Ardlui
Ardlui is a hamlet in the county of Argyll & Bute It is situated on the A82 highway between Crianlarich and Glasgow. Apart from the road, the hamlet is served by a regular bus service and benefits from a railway station. It appears that the main activity consists of a hotel, holiday park and marina.

The name Ardlui translates as promontory of Laoigh or calf

For persons in Scottish history, Ardlui lies at the boundary of the ancient kingdoms of the Brittonic speakers of Strathclyde and the Gaelic speakers of the N.W. A battle is said to have taken place in the area between the Britons and the Western Scots in the year 717.
