Key features
The original ‘Long John Silver’ may have lived and/or worked here. Silver was employed on lighthouse construction by the father of R.L. Stevenson. Latter was author of Treasure Island.
Benefits from good road and rail access, between Mallaig and Fort William. Arisaig is eight miles south of Mallaig and thirty-six miles west of Fort William.
Comprises a nice collection of, mainly, white-painted buildings. Here can be found lodgings, restaurants and shops.
Popular with pleasure boat enthusiasts (kayaking and sailing). There is a functional pier and marina.

Arisaig, on southern shores of Loch nan Uamh, was landing-place of ‘Bonnie’ Prince Charlie on Aug 11th 1745.This was a precursor to the ’45 Rebellion which culminated in the Battle of Culloden.
Garramore House was the training centre for special agents during WW2.
Location of a memorial to Czech and Slovak military casualties from WW2. These personnel trained in the region.

Situated at the southern tip of a magnificent five-mile stretch of rocky coastal inlets, silver sands, dunes and machair. Latter is a fertile, low-lying grassy plain close to the shore.
An interesting and scenic spot, worthy of a visit.
Back Road Drive
Between Arisaig and Morar is the B8008 which provides a beautiful scenic route close to the shore.

Nearer Mallaig is an excellent loch-side drive between Morar and Bracara along the bank of Loch Morar.
