Glen Nevis

Glen Nevis

Highland Cows at Glen Nevis, Scottish Highlands.

Introduction

This evening, I am posting information on Glen Nevis in the Scottish Highlands.

Information on Glen Nevis

This is a valley which runs S.E. from Fort William tracking the Water of Nevis (river). This runs along the base of Ben Nevis (mountain) and culminates in three waterfalls: Achriabhach, Lower Falls and Steall Falls. A leisurely round trip drive takes about one hour.

Key features of the Glen

  • Bordered by two ranges of mountains. Mamore Range is positioned to the south with Nevis Range to the north, including Ben Nevis 1,345 metres (4,413 ft). Ben Nevis ranks as Britain’s tallest mountain.
  • Positioned close to Fort William which is marketed as t.he ‘Outdoor Capital’ of Scotland. Fort William is 108 miles N.W. of Glasgow.
  • Marks the beginning/end of West Highland Way, a long-distance hiking trail which runs from Glasgow to Fort William.
  • Here can usually be found free-roaming sheep and, usually, a herd of (photogenic) Highland Cows.
  • At southern end can be found Lower Falls, a scenic waterfall site which is popular with visitors.
