Introduction
This evening, I am providing information on Ben Lawers, a significant mountain in central Scotland.
More information
Ben Lawers reaches a height of 1214m (3984ft.) It is the highest mountain in the central highlands of Scotland. This mountain gives its name to the internationally important, Ben Lawers National Nature Reserve.
The mountain is located on the north side of Loch Tay. Nearest access point is the village of Killin which sits at the southern end of Loch Tay. Killin is sixty-four miles north of Glasgow.

The entire nature reserve is famous for its rich arctic-alpine flora. Also, within the reserve’s perimeter can be found seven Munros (mountains with heights over 3000 feet).
The mountains are open to the public. Persons not wishing to tackle the summits can walk along the Edramucky Trail which offers picturesque views and is family friendly.
Naturalists will be interested in the teeming wildlife. Here can be found a wide range, from tiny insects to Scotland’s largest mammal, the red deer. Birds include raven, redpoll, black grouse and ptarmigan.

The entire site is under management of the National Trust for Scotland. This heritage organisation undertakes restoration and conservation work on the rare mountain wildlife habitats.
