House for an Art Lover

House for an Art Lover

House for an Art Lover, Glasgow, Scotland.

Introduction

This evening, I am posting information on House for an Art Lover, a popular Glasgow visitor attraction. Weddings are conducted here. Location is Bellahouston Park, G41 5BW.

Information on the property.

This building was the work of famous Glasgow architect, Charles Rennie Mackintosh (1868-1928) and his wife, Margaret MacDonald. It was not constructed during Mackintosh’s lifetime.

There is an extensive legacy of Mackintosh’s work in Glasgow including the Glasgow School of Art and Queen’s Cross Church.

The design for House for an Art Lover arose as a function of a competition entry in a German magazine in 1901. Mackintosh did not win the competition but was given a special award. Thereafter, the plans languished for nearly ninety years, until 1989. At this time Graham Roxburgh, an engineer, had the idea to build it upon a suitable site becoming available. It was eventually completed in 1996. Rooms include the Main Room, Dining Room, Oval Room, Music Room and the Margaret MacDonald Room.
