Lighthouse, Glasgow: 11 Mitchell Lane, G1 3NU

Introduction
This evening, I am reporting on the Lighthouse building in central Glasgow, Scotland. This is connected to the famous Glaswegian architect, Charles Rennie Mackintosh (1868-1928). As of February 2025 the building is closed to the public.
Information on the Building
The lighthouse is located in a small street known as Mitchell Lane. It dates from 1895 when constructed to house the Glasgow Herald Newspaper. It was designed by John Keppie to whom Charles Rennie Mackintosh was apprenticed at the time. The Mackintosh link endures via (a) the Mackintosh Tower, accessed via a helical stairway and which affords panoramic views over Glasgow, and (b) a floor dedicated to Mackintosh design (The Mackintosh Centre).
The building now functions as Scotland’s National Centre for Design and Architecture, providing a link between design, architecture and creative industries. In addition to the Mackintosh Centre there are floors with exhibitions on the design and architecture theme. Entrance is free and refreshment facilities are available.
