This evening, I am reporting on an ascent up Conic Hill, Loch Lomond. This is located on the S.E. side of Loch Lomond.
Path up Conic Hill
Information on the hike up Conic Hill, Loch Lomond.
Using the small loch-side village of Balmaha as a start point I connected with the West Highland Way trail. From here I embarked on the one hour ascent which entailed a diversion up a short rocky path. In due course I duly reached the summit which stands at a height of 350m or 1175 feet.
The start point of Balmaha is about 23 miles NW of Glasgow.
The weather held for most of the time thus providing good opportunities photography. Scope included the famous loch and landscape in winter.
In the course of the hike I encountered:
A large flock of sheep.
A near vertical rainbow.
Many other like-minded hikers, of all ages.
Bird life.
Numerous mountain streams in full spate.
The summit of Conic Hill offers a clear view of the line of the Highland Boundary Fault through Loch Lomond. Looking west affords views of the islands of Inchcailloch, Torrinch, Creinch and Inchmurrin
Overall, a satisfying and enjoyable trip.
Here is a (winter time) video clip of Loch Lomond (south) from Conic Hill.
