Information on Fishing in Scotland

Scotland offers a wide range of fishing opportunities via an extensive range of lochs (lakes), rivers, lakes (fisheries) and sea angling.

The main freshwater fish are salmon, trout, grayling and pike.

March to October is the typical fishing season although dates differ from river to river.

The key rivers are Tay, Spey and Tweed. These rivers are all roughly the same length at 118 miles, 108 miles and 98 miles respectively.

Fishing permits are usually required.
