Weightlifting at Commonwealth Games, Glasgow

Introduction

This morning, I attended the weightlifting competition at the Commonwealth Games, Glasgow, Scotland.

Information on Weightlifting

Weightlifting  refers to physical exercises and sports in which people lift weights, often in the form of dumbbells, barbells, or machines. People engage in weightlifting for a variety of reasons. These can include: developing physical strength; promoting health and fitness; competing in weightlifting sports; and developing a muscular and aesthetic physique.

Details of Glasgow Competition

The competition runs from July 26 to 30, 2026, with 16 events: eight for men (60kg to +110kg) and eight for women (48kg to +86kg) . Each athlete competes in two disciplines—the snatch and the clean & jerk—with three attempts in each. The highest combined total determines the medalists.A total of 176 weightlifters qualify (88 men, 88 women). Each nation may enter one athlete per weight class.
