Introduction
This evening, I am posting information on the popular tourist village of Killin which sits close to the southern tip of Loch Tay in central Scotland, about sixty five miles north of Glasgow.
Information on Killin
The name suggests an early Christian site (Celtic Church), dating from around the sixth century AD and means ‘at the white cell’.
Summary facts and information:
- Population about 700 persons.
- Well endowed with hotels and accommodation.
- Famous for the Falls of Dochart a lateral waterfall which is located at the southern end of the village.
- A good base for touring the Loch Tay and Glen Lyon regions.
- Home to the Moirlanich Longhouse, a 19th century cruck frame house which is now a visitor attraction.
- A base for activities such as water based and cycling.
- Home to the Clan MacNab Burial Ground.
- Close to the village centre is a public park which s used as a venue for the Killin highland Games.
- The Old Mill, an unusual water powered, three-storey rubble building, built about 1840, at the north-west corner of the Bridge of Dochart. Last used as a Tweed Mill.
