Introduction

This evening, I am reprising a one day section of a small group personalized photography tour.

This morning the weather was on our side. We departed our Aberfoyle lodgings early, about 7.30 am and drove round to Balmaha on Loch Lomond. This proved a magical experience. We had the site to ourselves with benefit of bright sunshine and blue skies. We saw lots of wildlife and hills in the distance were covered in a layer of snow which reflected in the sunshine. At Balmaha we spent about 45 mins revelling in the superb picture taking opportunities.

After Balmaha, we stayed with Loch Lomond but from a new vantage point of Luss. This is a heritage village on the west bank of the loch. At Luss there is a short pier which provides a good platform for photos, looking both north and south. Weather conditions stayed favourable.  We had a late breakfast here and then drove north stopping at Tarbert  (also Loch Lomond). Then onwards to another stop on northern tip of the loch.

Finally, we parted with Loch Lomond and then continued north. We went through through Crianlarich and Tyndrum before encountering higher elevations of Rannoch.

Next through Bridge of Orchy to Rannoch Moor. The latter is a desolate place little changed from end of last ice age.

We had a few stops for pics of Rannoch Moor and then drove on to the famous mountainous site of Glencoe. Here the mountains were capped with snow. After photo sessions we went on down for a brief stop at the visitor centre. Then over the bridge for a stop to view the Hebridean Princess   cruise ship and other photo ops. Then, through Onich to Corran and a short ferry crossing of Loch Linnhe. Here we came across a seal pup which seemed to be sick/stranded. There was good news in that we were informed that help was on its way

After the ferry crossing,we drove up the west side of Loch Linnhe stopping for pics of Ben Nevis and other vistas. This narrow and winding road connected with the road to Glenfinnan and on to our destination of Mallaig. En-route we did manage to stop for some seascape pics in the dying embers of sunset.

Finally. we arrived at Mallaig pending travel to Isle of Skye next day.

Summary

Overall, Scotland has much to offer the photographer, whether contemplating a short, within–the–day trip or an extended sojourn lasting a week or longer.
